Single Photon Upconversion Detector

Quantum Communication & Quantum Key Distribution (QKD)
This is one of the primary application areas.

  • 1550 nm is the standard wavelength for fiber-optic networks due to low transmission loss

  • QKD systems require reliable single-photon detection

  • Upconversion enables detection using silicon APDs, offering:

    • lower dark count rates

    • reduced afterpulsing

    • no cryogenic cooling
